Traveler's Checks and Cash: American Express and Thomas Cook have extensive networks of offices throughout India, and most banks--both government and private--will accept these traveler's checks. However, be prepared to duplicate your signature exactly as it appears on your checks and in your identification, or you may have some trouble getting your cash.
ATM Machines: ATM machines are becoming more available in Indian cities, especially as large multinational banks shift operations to India. In large cities such as Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi, Calcutta, Pune, and Bangalore ATM machines are plentiful. One can usually find an ATM machine at any major airport as well. The machines will accept most bank debit cards, and will usually offer cash advances on credit cards.
